The set of Waiting for Godot

I have a hard time paying attention to movies sometimes and this one really frustrated me in the beginning because once you try to draw yourself back in, you get lost again which might be a purposeful move in the writing. Even though I'm supposed to be paying attention to the dialogue, patterns, and themes I couldn't help myself being fixated by the setting and what it's purpose is as well as just the old style of the set itself. It made me uncomfortable almost how drab it was and not even in a specific way- just rubble and dirt and grey sky. No matter what point in time I was watching, it looked the same with no sense of direction or location. My best inference is some post-war zone but even still what it provides to the story is more lack of personality than deep background. The piles of material also make it so that we cannot see in any direction beyond the arbitrary area they are standing. It reminds me of this picture where unfocused it seems like there are things in the 'room' but none of the items are real so its kind of trippy.

Despite how often I may chime in with spontaneous comments (because I hate silence 😪) its a bit different to throw out my thoughts and theories on paper (or screen rather) because that means I thought about it and typed it and also hit publish. With this being said, one of my theories for ideas behind what Waiting for Godot could mean goes along with the set being kind of full of grey rubble. I think it could be that these people are traumatized from war, not real and representative of some afterlife (the Christ stuff), or the two main characters are thinking up all of this extra stuff including characters who aren't real (maybe one of them is fake too) and it could represent like the mental degradation and trauma of war society. I would say this is a stretch but the only thing my brain does while watching this is stretch in different directions. They fr just be saying stuff with a grey background idk. Ok but what if the background was just fully blank grey or white through like sensory deprivation (omg ok modern spinoff) and when they walked and met people it was even more directionless.
