Little Miss Sunshine: I am a Film Critic now

There's something about American coming of age movies that I absolutely can't stand and I think it's worth examining. It feels like I'm watching the same thing over and over even if the plot and characters are completely different. To explain with real movies: Little Miss Sunshine gives me the same aura as a movie like Lady Bird. Don't get me wrong, I liked both of those movies, and watching LMS during English was a nice break from what I consider more boring English things (just kidding I love and totally fully comprehend what a formalist lens is), but there's always something in these movies that makes me cringe whether its a few scenes, the dialogue, or the entire plot itself. In Little Miss Sunshine I was immediately confronted with the character Dwayne who I thought didn't talk for some deep behavioral reason but no, he just took an "Oath of Silence" that had to continue when his suicidal uncle came to visit. His entire character was too much for me... or too little?

This next "critique" (nothing is actually wrong with any of these things I'm just picky and annoying) is something I hate in any genre of movie and it could possibly be attributed to my attention issues: the dragged out we-are-going-to-be-late-and-our-mode-of-transportation-is-malfunctioning scene. Like please, I remember this from every Home Alone movie and that's the only place it belongs. Every time the car or plane or whatever starts combusting I have a strong urge to forward or skip the scene (save Home Alone) and let me tell you when I'm watching things by myself, I DO.  The last thing and probably the worst part of this movie was when the entire family got on stage to unhinge in front of an audience. Yes, I do this on Twitter all the time, but at least my household family isn't part of it LOL. The second-hand embarrassment from the off-beat dancing was too much. If this happened in real life I would laugh insanely hard but the fact that this is a purposeful written-in scene by a professional scriptwriter is crazy to me and I would probably forward this scene too if I had the power.

In conclusion, my critiques have minimal intellectual merit and I am a hater but I still love watching movies of all different kinds- even hate-watching. I also strongly believe that my favorite movies should be everyone's favorite. Right now I'm finishing watching the 2018 animated Grinch movie with its amazing visuals and soundtrack (highly recommended by me and I'm a film critic so if you have not please watch).
