OMG im scarred for life

Us youngsters (lol) use the phrase "scarred for life" when we see something we don't want to see. I've probably said this but no matter how hard I try to think, there is no image that comes to mind that has actually scarred me for life unless I count my recurring dream when I was 5 of an army of dobby the elf or Yoda (they were the same to me at age 5) chasing me (with zero weapons, just their scary faces and tiny bodies), but again this was a creation of my own mind and many things were scary at that age. Furthermore, at such a young age when many things seem scary different forms of censorship are in place, for example, internet use only with parental supervision and only watching PBS kids on TV. My parents even went to the extent of not letting me watch Disney channel or Nickelodeon because they dated and showed k*ssing.8 Great Life Teachings from Yoda | StarWars.com
My purpose for this rant is that I didn't truly understand the prompt we were given in class because --and maybe I sound like one of those internet trolls calling everyone a snowflake but-- in our place of privilege, what is so bad about seeing violence as it really happens? what else are we supposed to do, keep reading descriptions of it and hearing stories? Yes, I get shocked and sad when I see sad pictures of war but I also see reality and "taste" is not exactly of the essence in those cases
