Arthur Synthesis 😎🤑
Analyzing the relationship between pictures and words is very important but let's talk about video. More specifically, the iconic episode of Arthur which contains this frame:
It's called "Arthur's Big Hit" and to summarize for those (most) of you (perfectly normal people who don't have an Arthur themed blog) who only know the meme, this episode is about Arthur working hard to build a model airplane and telling D.W. not to touch it, but surprise! she does.
Now, this viral image can be found at the moment where Arthur finds his plane on the ground, broken from its fall after D.W. threw it out of the window thinking it would fly, but if you think that the lone picture is funny or a good meme, then you need to watch the whole clip.
The tone of this scene is set by the rumbling clouds behind his furious face. Arthur's gritted teeth represent the emotion that the rest is his body will soon match up to.
With all of the rage and despair a single voice can contain, Arthur shouts at his sister using the legendary phrase "I TOLD YOU NOT TO TOUCH IT" and then YEETS his fist at her arm. I wish I could further explain why this is so funny to me, but maybe only my friends with whom I spent a whole lunch period laughing at this video will get it. 🙊

RIDAA THIS IS ACTUALLY SO FUNNY WHAT THE HECK. I never knew the context of this meme, so first of all thank you for duly educating me. But can I just say, the Arthur theme music that goes do doo doo at the end makes it all the more funny? Ohmygosh your commentary on the scene literally has me dying.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you actually managed to tie in the arthur meme with our reading is honestly impressive. I loved this show as a kid and your recollection of it makes it even better. This is amazing.
ReplyDeletetHiS sCeNe iS iConiC! I love the tone analysis :O u truly do belong in 11AP. This clip has been memed so many times and I would love to send u some funny ones if I can search them up lmao
ReplyDeleteI liked how you took what we read and talked about in class a step forward by analyzing how video can also have a role int he picture and word analysis.
ReplyDeleteWow Ridaa, I love this. I too am an Arthur stan but you are on the next level, haha. I never truly thought about this scene even though I have seen it all the time in memes. I love how you were able to write so casually and openly share your thoughts, it truly allows you to openly share your views on the situation. This scene correlates directly with what we talked about in class regarding the power of pictures in daily life.
